Abstract
A statistical survey of neoplasms collected from the files of surgical specimens examined in the department of pathology during the five years starting from January, 1967-to December, 1971 was made.
The total number of specimens surveyed in this study was 23, 360, among which benign neoplasms accounted for 2, 437 cases and malignant neoplasms for 3, 964.
Male to female rario for benign tumors was 1:2.7 and for malignant tumors 1 : 1.4.
The mean age of benign tumors was 35.5 year-old. The. common locations where benign tumor arose were upper repiratory tract, skin, nervous system and vascular system in male, and uterus, ovaries, endocrine system and breast in female.
E[istologically, polyp was the commonest type of the benign tumors, the total number being 531 cases:
The average age of malignant tumors was 46.9years.
Anatomical locations of malignant neoplasms in order of frequency were as follows In the male stomach (26.4%), large intestine (10.8%), liver (9.9 ), oral cavity (8. 0%), larynx (5.8%) etc., and in the female uterus (56.2%), breast (8.6%), stomach (7.4%), large intestine C4.1%), skin (2. 6%) etc.
Carcinoma of the uterine cervix ranked the highest frequency in the female and carcinoma of the stomach in the male.
A detail analysis on benign and malignant tumors in made, comparing with the previously reported data, and reviewed the literatures.
